This report covers organic herb production research from 1999 to 2001. The focus is certified organic methods of fertilization and use of organic mulches for weed suppression. The results were not consistent. Compost increased herb leaf growth but not root growth. Imported biological fertilizers also increased plant growth and yields, but did not provide any advantage over locally produced compost. First-year
results show a significant effect from natural mulches, including yield increase and weed suppression. From Iowa State University.
